“En base al estudio y recorrido de un territorio cordillerano aparentemente en blanco, se busca dar con aquellos elementos y vestigios identitarios que definen, singularizan y dan valor el territorio andino de la región del Maule.
En la búsqueda de la identidad local y el habitar en la alta montaña, el proyecto pretende posicionar los baños termales San Pedro, como lugar símbolo de ocupación territorial para la cordillera de Romeral.”
Copenhagen-based artist Matthew Simmonds carves miniature architectural interiors, angular shapes, and tiny windows filled with symbolic objects, trinkets, and animals. His ghostly white sculptural forms are cut from and presented within raw stone, which allows for a striking contrast between his designs and the medium’s natural surface.

A passerby could easily miss the new UCCA Dune Art Museum, by Li Hu and Huang Wenjing of Beijing-based OPEN Architecture. Located on a strip of sand on the Bohai Sea—not far from Beidaihe, the summer retreat of China’s Communist Party leaders—the 10,000-square-foot museum lies mostly hidden, literally buried within one of the last remaining natural dune formations on the country’s northeast coast.

Maison du Parc in Montreal features stark interiors with “mysterious depth”
Black and white spaces, including a sculptural staircase and a wine cellar, are found across this brick house overhauled by Montreal firm La Shed Architecture.
Maison du Parc, or Park House, is a three-storey residence in the Canadian city that has received a rear extension and a dramatic interior renovation. Inside, a stark palette of black and white creates a contemporary aesthetic, visually warmed slightly by the herringbone-patterned dark wood flooring. “This home, with its high level of contrast and impressive scenery, is inspired by the architecture of early-century mansions,” said La Shed Architecture.
